I remember the first Swiss Army knife I ever had. It was a gift from my uncle—and I cherished it. It was the tiny Classic model, and I couldn't believe how beautifully finished it was. Sadly, I lost it after just a few months, and I never bothered to purchase a replacement.
Fast forward to the present, and I am still amazed by their fit & finish, but I'm less enamoured with their utility than before. Their biggest shortcoming, the absence of a locking mechanism, has been readily addressed by multitool manufacturers like Leatherman. So as much as I admire their construction, I don't see the need to acquire one in addition to the two knives and multitool I currently carry. One final note, Victorinox, the manufacturers of Swiss Army knives, do make excellent multitools with the same attention to detail as their knives. Many people swear by them, but I haven't had the chance to evaluate one personally.
